YOUNG sprinter Khairul Hafiz Jantan sent the country into a frenzy last night when he emerged as the fastest man in Southeast Asia, a feat that will surely be celebrated for a long time, as the home contingent continues to outperform its rivals at the 29th Sea Games.

With millions of Malaysians glued to their television screens and hundreds present at the Bukit Jalil National Stadium, the 19-year-old, who looked relaxed and had a big smile on his face, outran previous champion Eric Shauwn Cray of the Philippines to add the men’s 100m gold to the overall haul of 16  won by Malaysian athletes yesterday.

Malaysia has kept its top spot in the medal tally with 40 gold so far, double that of current second-placed Singapore, which scooped three swimming titles to raise its tally to 20, staying ahead of Vietnam with 16, Thailand and Indonesia with 12, the Philippines with eight and Myanmar with four. - August 23, 2017.
