PAS and Umno, two former enemies cum political partners, today formally inked a charter of cooperation at the Putra World Trade Centre in Kuala Lumpur, with its leaders saying the pact offers a “new deal for Malaysia”.

Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said the new deal would solve the instability and chaos in the country caused by the ruling Pakatan Harapan coalition.

It would also lay the foundation for the new political cooperation between the Malay parties – now the biggest in the country by membership.

The charter, called muafakat nasional (national concord), was today inked by Zahid and his PAS counterpart, Abdul Hadi Awang, and brings to an end nearly four decades of enmity between the two political parties.

It also seeks to boost the opposition front ahead of the 15th general election. – September 14, 2019.
