Bongawan5 — Bongawan in the parliamentary constituency of Kimanis is a small town in the west coast of Sabah. Its main attractions are its colonial British wooden shophouses built in 1922 and after the war in1950. – The Malaysian Insight pic by Irwan Majid, January 11, 2020.

LIFE is quiet and unhurried in Membakut and Bongawan in the parliamentary constituency of Kimanis, Sabah. Many of its buildings are built by the British colonialists dating back to the 1920s.

Most of the folk here make their living from anchovies and shrimp, which they catch and then sell by the side of the road from Kimanis to Papar. Some of the seafood, however, make their way to Labuan, Sarawak and the peninsula to be sold.

The Sabah Oil and Gas Terminal and the electric power project are among the few modern landmarks seen in Kimanis.

Jobs are scarce in this Sabah outpost, where fishing and farming make up the sources of income of the people. – January 11, 2020.
