MADRASAH Tahfiz Al-Jauhar in Kota Tinggi, Johor, is in the spotlight after one of its pupils died on April 27, 2017. Mohamad Thaqif Amin Mohd Gadaffi was the victim of abuse at the hands of an assistant warden at the school.

The 11-year-old pupil was whipped with a water hose until the legs were black and blue. The legs became infected and it later spread to the kidneys and shoulder.

Thaqif’s legs had to be amputated at Sultan Ismail Hospital on April 21. He was scheduled to undergo more surgery to remove the right arm but he died on the same day.

He was laid to rest at the Felda Bukit Aping Timur Muslim cemetery in Kota Tinggi, Johor, about 12.30am  on April 27.
