Life in the back lanes of Kuala Lumpur

IT’s not only rats and cockroaches that occupy the nooks and crannies of Kuala Lumpur’s back lanes.
Some view the alleys as breeding grounds for crime, but they serve diverse purposes, some more useful than others. By day, the back lanes are service roads. By night, they serve as rent-free retail space for petty traders, and for the homeless, they are a place to bed down for the night.
The back lanes have existed before the Pacific War and are still very much intact today. And most interestingly of all, one never knows what one will find in there. – December 2, 2017.
