The 14th edition of the Penang Island Jazz Festival came to a close on Sunday with smashing performances from musicians from all over the world. Held yearly since 2004, the independent music festival features the best local and international jazz musicians.

This year’s showcase included bands from Australia, Austria, Poland, Norway, and South Korea.  Events were held in the main festival venue at Bayview Beach Resort and the fringe stage at various venues on the island from November 30 to December 3.

The highlight was “Jazz By The Beach”, the main stage programme that the festival director Paul Augustin said offered “a diverse and eclectic” line-up of performers.

Sunday’s performances included Italian finger-style guitarist Peppino D’ Agostino, South Korean Ethno-fusion bands SE:UM, acoustic folk jazz quartet Holler My Dear, modern jazz Luxembourg-USA collaboration trio Reis Demuth Wiltgen, and Penang’s own jazz quintet Tonal Alchemy. – December 5, 2017.
