THE Jahai tribe in Perak were dealt a doubled blow when one of their own went missing. The search for the lost girl has occupied all of their time and prevented them from foraging in the forest for rattan, on which they depend for income.

Asok, 47, the village head of Kampung Selaor in the Temenggor forest reserve, said the villagers had only started to make money from rattan, but now they have to focus on looking for a child who went missing from the village two weeks ago.

The village, located 15km from the nearest road, is only accessible by four-wheel drive vehicles.

Nine-year-old Kamiliah Anab, or Ayeng, was reported missing on January 13 after she went with relatives into the forest but failed to return. – January 30, 2022.
