The crackdown on illegal foreign workers began early this morning at a makeshift dormitory in Klang, Selangor.

The authorities are taking action after they issued a warning that  illegal foreign workers would have until June 30 to register for their E-Card or be rounded up and sent back to their country of origin.

The E-Card, launched on February 15, functions as a temporary confirmation of employment for illegal workers.

The move comes as part of a drive to legalise the estimated 1 million foreign workers employed in Malaysia without documentation.

In the raid documented here, 51 out of 239 foreign workers were found without valid documents. Most of them were from Bangladesh. – July 1, 2017.
