MALIM Nawar was once a major tin producer and the many abandoned mines have now turned into lakes.

These lakes are ideal for freshwater fish breeding, turning this area in Kampar district, Perak, from a top tin producer to the largest freshwater fish supplier.

Hundreds of fishermen and their family depend on fishing as a source of income. Some go fishing whenever they are free for the additional income while many are full-time inland fisherman.

In the last eight years, most of the lakes in the area have been leased to private companies or individuals. The lakes been fenced off to prevent poaching. – August 13, 2018.
