BATU Caves is a place of worship for Hindu devotees that attracts more than a million visitors during Thaipusam, and is a favourite tourist destination all year round.

In preparation for its consecration (kumbhabhisekham), the temple underwent extensive structural repair work topped with a fresh coat of paint.

The temple is consecrated every 12 years to renew its positive energy.

Batu Cave temple secretary Sethutathy Kumarsamy said the renovations cost RM5.5 million.

However, the temple has come under fire as it failed to get the approval of the National Heritage Department for the renovations.

Meanwhile, the colourful makeover, especially of the 272 steps leading up to the cave temple, has made Batu Caves even more Instagrammable. – September 2, 2018.
