ANWAR Ibrahim last night promised another major project in Port Dickson to improve the economy in the seaside town.

Speaking to some 2,000 Chinese voters last night, the PKR president-elect promised investments from Taiwan in addition to three other projects which he had announced previously.

The projects he has promised previously include a five-star hotel, an airline programme and an education programme.

“I have already lined up four plans in the two days of campaigning,” Anwar told the crowd.

However, he was scarce on details of the project by the Taiwanese investment company and said he will reveal it later in his campaign.

Anwar said he will create more jobs in Port Dickson as youth there are moving out of the coastal town for better prospects.

“I want to figure out how to boost the economy in Port Dickson so that the young ones can work here,” Anwar said to loud cheers from the crowd.

The former deputy prime minister said he also wants to clean up the beaches in Port Dickson and build more infrastructure to attract tourists.

“We want clean beaches here. We want this place to look good,” Anwar added.

He also reiterated that he should win by a big majority so that his mandate as future prime minister will be strong.

“If I win by a bit, I will be shy. People will say what is Anwar, he won by only 200 votes and wants to become prime minister,” Anwar said.

The 71-year-old then asked Chinese voters to spread the word about voting for him.

“Please tell your friends and family. Ask them to vote. I make a humble request to everyone here, every vote counts,” Anwar said.

He is going against former Negri Sembilan menteri besar Isa Samad, PAS’ Nazari Mokhtar and four independents including his former aide, Saiful Bukhari Mohd Azlan.

The Port Dickson parliamentary seat has 75,212 registered voters, comprising 43% Malays, 33% Chinese and 22% Indians. – October 2, 2018.
