THE government will announce measures to lessen the administrative workload of teachers, in a move to return to an era where educators were passionate and took pride in their jobs, said Education Minister Dr Maszlee Malik.
“I’m hopeful we can bring back the golden era of teachers. When there were teachers who were ‘hero teachers’, he told reporters today.
“I think every single one of you, maybe not the younger ones, elder generations, we still have our hero teachers. Why?
“Because the teachers then loved their careers. They teach us, they love us like their own children and when they teach us, they want us to learn. They want us to succeed.”
Maszlee said he was aware that many of today’s teachers were bogged down by extra administrative responsibilities, which did not allow them to focus on their actual jobs of teaching.
“We are going to change this. We are going to change back, we going to bring back the era of glory for the teachers. And it’s going to be soon.”
He said his ministry would soon have “good news for teachers” by early next year, adding that his officers were working hard to study ways to ease the work burden of teachers. – October 2, 2018.
