THE different school streams in the country should foster unity by carrying out exchange programmes with each other, said Education Minister Dr Maszlee Malik.

He said, for example, pupils and teachers from national and vernacular schools, or private and religious schools could set up twinning arrangements to learn from each other.
“When you organise football matches, exchange of teachers or pupils, it will open a new horizon for those involved.

“It will bring down the walls of prejudice and build bridges between pupils, teachers and the community,” he said after the launch of a forum to improve the standard of Bahasa Melayu in Chinese schools in the capital today.

He noted that several private schools in Johor Baru had entered twinning arrangements with national schools.

“It’s fairly new at the national level, but we want to encourage this. I won’t force anyone, but by constantly reminding schools, I hope they will be prompted to act,” he said. – October 2, 2018.
