ANWAR Ibrahim told the people of Port Dickson to not forget the scandals surrounding Felda and its former chairman, Isa Samad, who is contesting against him in the by-election.
“We do not want Malays who are corrupt and stole from the state. In the 1Malaysia Development Bhd scandal, there were Malays and Chinese (involved).
“The Malay is (former prime minister) Najib (Razak) and the Chinese is Jho Low. The rest of the Malays are angry.
Isa’s tenure as Felda chairman – from 2011 to last year – was tainted with scandals that included shady land deals and hotel purchases. He was investigated by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission and police over his alleged involvement.
Anwar added that leaders should not misappropriate public funds but instead be thrifty for the people.
“Our job is not to steal from the people. We want to serve the people. This is a new Malaysia. A new dawn for Malaysia.
“We want a proper culture. Our ministers need to be thrifty,” he said.
The former deputy prime minister also said any leader in the new Malaysia should be colour-blind and serve the people no matter what race they are.
“We want to uplift the good Malays, the good Chinese, the good Indians, the good Ibans and the good Kadazans,” Anwar said.
The former deputy prime minister is up against six candidates – former Negri Sembilan menteri besar Isa, air force veteran Mohd Nazari Mokhtar of PAS, Anwar’s former aide and sodomy accuser Mohd Saiful Azlan Bukhari, and three other independents.
A study from Institut Darul Ehsan found that Anwar is set to sweep the election, followed by Isa while the rest of the candidates will lose their deposits. – October 10, 2018.
