PAKATAN Harapan candidate for the Port Dickson by-election Anwar Ibrahim revealed he chose to contest in the constituency as he sees its potential and wants to bring development there.

The PKR president-elect said he wanted to boost Port Dickson’s tourism industry, especially in Southeast Asia.

“I chose Port Dickson because I want to bring development to Port Dickson. I want to make Port Dickson a tourist destination in this region.

“I want to make sure Port Dickson emerges as a very important tourist destination in this part of the world,” Anwar said in a ceramah tonight.

The former deputy prime minister is contesting against six candidates – former Negri Sembilan menteri besar Isa Samad, air force veteran Mohd Nazari Mokhtar of PAS, Anwar’s former aide and sodomy accuser Mohd Saiful Azlan Bukhari, and three other independents in a seven-way fight for Port Dickson.

Anwar added that he was touched by the support of Port Dickson’s constituents and said he made a right choice in choosing the seat.

“I am happy and I believe that it is the right decision to choose Port Dickson. I’m happy and proud to say I’ve chosen Port Dickson.

“We have all the leaders backing me up. Including the prime minister,” he said referring to Dr Mahathir Mohamad, who attended a ceramah in Port Dickson today.

“The friendship and affection shown by the people here is good. My only promise to people in Port Dickson is that I will give my best to Port Dickson,” Anwar said.

Voters in Port Dickson are 43% of Malays, 33% of Chinese, 22% of Indians and 2% others.

In GE14, PKR’s Danyal Balagopal Abdullah won 36,225 votes, defeating the BN and PAS candidates who received 18,515 and 6,594 votes, respectively.

The by-election was called when Danyal resigned to allow Anwar to make his comeback in Parliament, and eventually succeeding Dr Mahathir as prime minister. – October 10, 2018.
