The PKR president-elect said about half of the outside Chinese voters were working in places as far as Johor and Singapore.

He asked relatives and friends of those who lived outside to convince them to come back and vote.

“If they don’t come back, the number of voters will drop. So, I ask for your help to call them to come back.

“About 60% of Chinese voters are living outside, and Indians 55% (of them)  outside. That is why we need to find a way. If you have a problem, let us know. We will resolve it.

“Tonight, do not sleep until you tell your children, siblings. Call them and ask them what’s the problem.

“If there are problems, give their numbers to the (ybs) to call and find out,” Anwar told the crowd at Kampung Baru Tanah Merah Site A.

The crowd made up of mostly Chinese together agreed by saying “Janji” (promise) and cheered him on.

The former deputy prime minister then said victory is already in the bag for him, but the question now is how big would his majority be.

“Do not take this lightly. A lot of people tell me, ‘Do not worry, Datuk, we have won’. That is true, but I do not want to become only a parliamentarian.

“This Port Dickson, Malaysia is watching… in fact, it is the whole world.”

Anwar said a big majority would make his mandate as PM strong and resistant against attempts of sabotage.

Anwar is in a seven-way fight for the seat. He is up against five independent candidates – Mohd Saiful Bukhari Azlan, Isa Samad, Lau Seck Yan, Stevie Chan and Kan Chee Yuen – and air force veteran Mohd Nazari Mokhtar of PAS.

The Port Dickson seat fell vacant after Danyal Balagopal Abdullah, of PKR, quit as MP to make way for Anwar’s bid to return to Parliament.

This is in line with PH’s plan to have him take over from Dr Mahathir Mohamad as prime minister.

In the 14th general election, Danyal got 36,225 votes, defeating Barisan Nasional’s Mogan Velayatham and Mahfuz Roslan of PAS, who received 18,515 and 6,594 votes, respectively. – October 12, 2018.
