A WAR of words erupted between PKR members of opposing factions at its voting centre for the party polls in the Gombak division this morning.

In the heated exchanges, members supporting incumbent deputy president Azmin Ali were seen trading barbs with supporters of his contender, Rafizi Ramli.

Both groups had been lining up outside the voting centre at Seri Siantan hall this morning to hand out “cai papers”.

Cai papers are usually in the form of leaflets aimed at influencing voters to cast their ballots for certain candidates.

This morning, Azmin arrived at the hall to cast his ballot in his Gombak stronghold.

However, before and after he left, several exchanges between his supporters – who were wearing red – and Rafizi’s supporters in blue transpired.

An altercation between an Azmin supporter and a woman believed to be a Rafizi supporter broke out as they handed out cai papers.

During the exchange, the woman said: “You’re not ashamed of picking on a woman.”

Members posing as election officers were also seen entering the voting centre to hand out cai papers.

“They were wearing red – the security team is also wearing red. So, they are trying to get in to hand out cai papers. This is unacceptable,” said Gombak PKR security head Wan Ariffin Abdul Wahab.

He said he would lodge a complaint PKR’s election steering committee (JPP) after voting closes today.

“We have pictures and videos of all the fights that happened. We will be making a report,” Wan Ariffin said.

Azmin, after casting his vote, urged the JPP to investigate complaints about money politics and vote buying during party polls.

The economic affair minister added that the newly implemented e-voting system had also caused unnecessary delays in the voting process. – October 21, 2018.
