DAP veteran Lim Kit Siang must prove his claim that funds MCA accepted from former prime minister Najib Razak were from 1Malaysia Development Bhd, presidential candidate Gan Ping Sieu said.
However, if the money was indeed found to originate from the scandal-ridden state investor, then the party will return it, if he is elected president next month, Gan added.
The former MCA vice-president said DAP, now that it was part of the government, should investigate if MCA took money that belonged to 1MDB instead of just making allegations.
“If the money is proven to be from ill-gotten gains, MCA will be very happy to return it.
“Today, Pakatan Harapan is in power. They should stop using political rhetoric against MCA and prove their allegations,” Gan said at a press conference today to unveil his manifesto.
Gan also said should he win in the party polls, MCA would leave BN.
He is running against outgoing deputy president Wee Ka Siong and Beruas MCA Youth chief Ngoo Teck Keong for the top post.
Lim had criticised former MCA president Dr Chua Soi Lek for saying that MCA had not questioned Najib on the source of funds given to the party in 2013 for the 13th general election that year.
Dr Chua had said: “When your father gives you money, will you ask him where the money is from or if he stole it?”
Dr Chua said if the money was from 1MDB, MCA never knew this.
Najib, who was also BN chairman, had distributed RM470 million to component parties in the 2013 general election. Of the total, MCA received RM16.5 million. – October 22, 2018.
