THE Public Accounts Committee (PAC) aims to wrap up its hearing on “missing” goods and services tax (GST) refunds before the current parliamentary sitting ends.

PAC chairman Ronald Kiandee told reporters this today after a session on the matter.

The PAC is investigating how RM19.4 billion needed to refund companies and business for GST tax inputs was not transferred to a trust account to make the payments.

The missing funds was discovered after the new government was formed following the May 9 general election.

The committee today questioned former Treasury secretary-general Irwan Serigar Abdullah and is to question former prime minister Najib Razak, who was also the finance minister, tomorrow.

“On the matter of GST refunds, we hope to come to a conclusion before the end of this sitting,” Kiandee said.

The current parliamentary sitting ends on December 11. – October 23, 2018.
