POLICE have detained 13 suspects over the violence that broke out at Sunday’s Nothing to Hide 2.0 forum, said Inspector-General of Police Khalid Abu Bakar.

“We have arrested 13 people as of this morning related to the fracas at the Nothing to Hide forum,” Khalid told reporters at Bukit Aman today.

However, he declined to give further details on the suspects, who are being questioned.

This morning, The Malaysian Insight reported that authorities were getting closer to identifying the mastermind behind the chaos at the event, which was organised by opposition party Bersatu.

Initial investigations revealed that several teenagers involved in the chaos had been paid RM50 to cause the ruckus.

The forum was meant to be an open debate between Dr Mahathir Mohamad and Prime Minister Najib Razak, who did not attend.

The former prime minister was onstage answering questions when shoes were thrown from the crowd in his direction.

Chaos then erupted, with water bottles, chairs and lit flares thrown around the hall as the crowd scrambled. – August 16, 2017.
