POLICE have wrapped up their probe into last weekend’s fatal accident on the Penang Bridge, which saw an SUV plunging into the sea.

Seberang Prai Tengah district police chief Nik Ros Azhan Nik Abd Hamid said the investigation papers will be submitted to the prosecution tomorrow.

“We will refer to the DPP (deputy public prosecutor) on Monday for a review,” he told The Malaysian Insight.

Police investigated the crash under Section 41 of the Road Transport Act for causing death by reckless or dangerous driving.

In the wee hours of last Sunday, a Toyota Vios crashed into the SUV, a Mazda CX5, causing it to spin out of control and fall off the bridge.

The SUV driver, Moey Yun Peng, 20, was trapped in the vehicle, which was retrieved only on Tuesday evening. Drowning was ruled as the cause of death.

The Vios driver, who was briefly admitted to hospital, was detained on Wednesday for questioning. He was released on police bail the same day.

Both drivers were former schoolmates, and the crash occurred as they were driving home after attending a birthday party in George Town on the island.

Moey lived in Butterworth, while the Vios driver lives in Prai. – January 27, 2019.
