PAKATAN Harapan’s (PH) ability to serve the people will help them prevail in the Semenyih by-election, said Bersatu Youth chief Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman.

He said PH has a strong chance of beating the Umno-PAS alliance if they focus on serving the people.

The Semenyih seat fell vacant following the death of its assemblyman, Bersatu’s Mohd Bakhtiar Mohd Nor, of a heart attack on January 11.

“To politically serve the people is the core policy of PH. Only then the people will continue to be with us.

“We respect the relationship between Umno and PAS but I feel it is more important that the people see PH continuously serving the people.

“No need to be petty, what is important that we ourselves are strong and serve the people,” said the Muar MP during a press-conference in Semenyih.

Syed Saddiq said Bersatu has shortlisted its candidate and the names are with party president Muhyiddin Yassin and chairman Dr Mahathir Mohamad.

“Whoever the candidate is, Armada and Harapan Youth will give our undivided support,” he said.

The party will announce its candidate for the Semenyih by-election on February 14, two days before nomination day.

Bersatu’s Bakhtiar had previously won the Semenyih state seat with 23,428 votes, with a 8,964 majority vote over BN’s Johan Abd Aziz.

Nomination is set for February 16, while early voting is on February 26 and polling day is on March 2.

PAS has decided to stay out of the by-election and throw its support behind Umno. – February 10, 2019.
