WHY would former prime minister Najib Razak apply to defer his graft trial if he is innocent, said Mohamed Azmin Ali.

Azmin, who is economic affairs minister, also questioned Najib’s bravery, which he said only shows on social media.

“If he really is brave, why delay the trial?” he said at the launch of the Pakatan Harapan Women’s Operation Centre for the Semenyih by-election last night.

Polling for the Semenyih by-election is on March 2 while nomination for the seat will be on Saturday.

The trial has been delayed pending Najib’s appeal against the Kuala Lumpur High Court’s decision to allow Attorney-General Tommy Thomas’ application to withdraw a certificate to transfer the seven charges over SRC International Bhd from the high court to the sessions court.

Azmin said that the Malays in Semenyih will not be as easily swayed as in the Cameron Highlands by-election, which saw BN retain its seat.

Azmin said while a majority of Semenyih voters are Malays, they are from the city and are not as easily swayed or manipulated by Najib’s antics.

“Only now he’s riding motorbikes, eating roti canai, wearing a sarong and taking a taxi ride. While this may work in Cameron Highlands, I’d like to see him try it in Semenyih.

“Come to Semenyih, over here the bosses are the rakyat. In Semenyih the voters are the leaders here,” he said. – February 13, 2019.
