POLITICAL activist Jufazli Shi Ahmad, who has been lambasting Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad on social media, was picked up by police early this morning.
The 31-year-old outspoken activist from Sandakan, Sabah was picked up at home in Cheras, Selangor, along with a 31-year-old female companion around 4am.
The Malaysian Insight understands he was arrested for refusing to cooperate with the authorities.
Sources in Bukit Aman said Jufazli uploaded to his Facebook livefeed while police were arresting him.
“In the feed he uttered insulting words at the police force while his female companion tried to stop police from arresting Jufazli,” the source said.
The police also confiscated two smartphones and a laptop believed to be used by the former Sabah DAP member to air his grouses about the prime minister on social media.
Jufazli’s earlier posts showed he was supportive of Dr Mahathir but his views seem to change overnight following Sarawak Report’s exposure of PAS’ RM90 million scandal.
The activist attacked Dr Mahathir over his failure to take action against PAS, which allegedly received money from Umno.
Jufazli said he had given evidence of PAS’ alleged corruption to the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission before Sarawak Report editor Clare Rewcastle Brown reported the scandal.
Police have filed Jufazli’s case under Section 504 of the Penal Code, for intentional insult with intent to provoke a breach of the peace, and laws under Communication and Multimedia Act Section 233. – March 16, 2019.
