DAP has identified its candidate for the Sandakan by-election scheduled on May 11, said Sabah Chief Minister Mohd Shafie Apdal.

The Warisan president today confirmed that DAP has picked its candidate following a meeting he had with DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng yesterday.

He said it was up DAP to announce it, and refused to reveal more details.

“I have discussed with him (Lim) yesterday. Yes they have found a candidate. But it is not the time to reveal who,” he told reporters today at the Kota Kinabalu International Airport.

The Sandakan parliamentary seat fell vacant after the death of Sabah DAP chief and incumbent Stephen Wong Tien Fatt due to heart attack last month.

Wong, 64, suddenly fell ill and died after hiking up a hill with a group of climbers at the Tambaig Adventure Park in Putatan, Kota Kinabalu on March 28.

Shafie said he will soon call a meeting to prepare for the by-election. – April 10, 2019.
