MORE Sabahan women should be considered for a Datukship in recognition of their contributions to society, said Christina Liew.

“For their contributions to the development of the people of Sabah, they should be given some kind of acknowledgment,” the deputy chief minister said at the Commonwealth Association of Leadership Malaysia event in Kota Kinabalu today.

Liew, who was a panellist for the Celebrating Women Leadership discussion, said women’s rights civil groups can nominate names for the title, and she will facilitate the recommendation process.

It is up to the chief minister to confer the title, she said.

In her speech, she said women’s role in society is being increasingly recognised in Malaysia, with many given equal opportunity to take on decision-making posts nowadays.

On the 30% quota for women in such positions, she said Sabah needs more time to arrive at the figure. – April 13, 2019.
