Sabah’s tourism tax revenue to be used for promos, assembly told

THE RM12.66 million in tourism tax revenue Sabah got from Putrajaya will be used to promote the state’s tourism products, said Christina Liew.

The deputy chief minister said the funds will go towards activating district-level tourism action councils, which will promote the said products both locally and abroad.

“The monies are with the state Treasury. It was not given directly. We will not be issuing a grant.

“So far, we have developed 18 districts, and we hope to have more districts in the future,” she told the state assembly today.

Liew, who is also state tourism, culture and environment minister, was replying to Pitas rep Bolkiah Ismail, who asked whether Sabah has received its portion of the tourism tax revenue, and what the state governent intends to do with the money. – April 15, 2019.
