Vivian Wong to defend late dad’s Sandakan seat

VIVIAN Wong, the daughter of the late Sandakan MP Stephen Wong Thien Fatt, is the DAP choice for the parliamentary seat.
Sabah Chief Minister Mohd Shafie Apdal announced the 30-year-old’s selection at the Sandakan community centre today.
The Sandakan federal seat fell vacant following the Wong’s death from a heart attack on March 28.
The nomination for the seat is on Saturday and polling is on May 11.
Vivian is the fourth daughter of Wong and has been active in politics since 2012.
Also present at the town-hall session were DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng, senior DAP adviser Lim Kit Siang and Sabah Pakatan Harapan chief Christina Liew.
Vivian was earlier tipped to take over the federal seat.
She is expected to face a candidate from the Parti Bersatu Sabah, the sole opposition party which has confirmed participation in the by-election.
Three other individuals namely, former Sabah Amanah chief Hamzah Abdullah, a former plantation manager and controversial activist Jufazli Shi Ahmad have expressed interest in contesting as independent candidates. – April 25, 2019.
