THE Yayasan Sabah group, a Sabah government-owned foundation, will be awarded timber and sand mining concessions from the state to boost its ability to provide aid and funding in the field of education.

Sabah Chief Minister Mohd Shafie Apdal said the state government will return a few of the timber concessions back to Yayasan Sabah, along with giving the foundation rights to sell sand to a glass factory which will soon be built in Sabah’s Kota Kinabalu Industrial Park.

He said the money made by the foundation will be used to support Sabah students who excel in their studies but face financial constraints.

“We will find the money. We (the state government) will help the foundation generate the funds.

“All I want Yayasan Sabah to do is to assist our students. Don’t worry, we will help find the money,” Shafie said during the foundation’s Excellent Scholarship Award and Education and Career Carnival in Kota Kinabalu today.

Earlier, Sabah Education and Innovation Minister Yusof Yacob said only 45% of Sabah students are accepted into universities

Late last year, Shafie announced that Yayasan Sabah will take over all extraction, purchases and sale of timber in Sabah. – May 3, 2019.
