THE Registrar of Societies (RoS) has approved Sabah Bersatu’s application to set up divisional offices in the state and Labuan, said party president Muhyiddin Yassin today.
Muhyiddin, who is also home minister, said the approval on May 3 will pave the way for the state chapter to set up 25 divisions in Sabah and one in Labuan.
“Under Section 12(6) of the RoS Act 1966, the branches must be formed in three months from the date of approval, unless an extension is granted,” he told reporters during the handing over ceremony of the RoS approval letter in Kota Kinabalu.
He is in Sabah for a one-day visit for the ceremony and paying a visit to his deputy minister Azis Jamman who has been hospitalised due to a motorcycle accident.
Also present were Sabah Bersatu chief coordinator Hajiji Mohd Noor, party leader Masidi Manjun and others.
Bersatu officially set up shop in Sabah on April 6 and presently has four MPs and nine state assemblymen.
The party however has kept a low profile since setting up in Sabah, largely due to the registration issue.
According to Muhyiddin, there are more than 127, 000 Sabah Bersatu membership applications at present.
Meanwhile, Hajiji said the party is expected to hold its first general meeting in the next three months. – May 5, 2019
