DAP today urged party supporters in Sandakan to wear “red” to mark one year of “Malaysia Baru” under the Pakatan Harapan government and a “welcome” to former prime minister Najib Razak on Friday.
Speaking to the press at Sandakan DAP’s office today, state party secretary Chan Foong Hin said the colour should be worn tomorrow and Friday during all the party’s ceramah ahead of the Sandakan by-election on Saturday.
Chan made the call after Umno Supreme Council member Lokman Noor Adam urged Malaysians to wear black tomorrow to protest against the Pakatan Harapan government’s unfulfilled promises after one year in power.
Lokman had cited six reasons for the Black 905 campaign, ranging from the “destruction” of the special position of Islam, bumiputera rights, Bahasa Malaysia and the rulers.
DAP adviser Lim Kit Siang said Malaysia is becoming a nation of integrity since PH took power a year ago.
This is because Najib has been charged in court for alleged crimes he committed while in power, as well as the other top Umno figures.
Lim said Najib had shamed Malaysia by turning it into a kleptocracy.
He said Najib now has no choice but to explain to the people of Sandakan when he is going to pay back all the money he had stolen.
“Malaysians still view corruption seriously. It is still a problem and the new government is still dealing with the mess.
“If he comes tomorrow, wearing black will send him a strong message that we are against corruption,” he said.
Sabah Umno chairmann Bung Moktar Radin said Najib will be in Sandakan on Friday when his trial for charges related to SRC International take a break.
DAP Perak chairman Nga Kor Ming said Najib’s campaigning for PBS in Sandakan shows that the Sabah party is also an accomplice to the corruption of the previous regime.
He said Najib had no choice but to admit to have stolen money from the people after the US government had returned the alleged 1MDB money.
Attorney-General Tommy Thomas yesterday said US authorities have transferred US$57 million (RM236 million) to Malaysia from funds it received from Red Granite Pictures that is linked to Riza Aziz. – May 8, 2019.
