BERSATU Youth chief Syed Saddiq Abdul Rahman today reminded former vice-president Hamidah Osman, who resigned from the party last week, to never forget the “enemy” that had led her to join Bersatu in the first place.

Syed Saddiq thanked Hamidah for her contributions to the party,  and reminded her to continue the struggle against corruption.

“I would like to thank Dato Hamidah for her past contributions, especially during the founding days of the party. I obviously had my reservations and disagreements with her; similarly, she had the same disagreements and reservations with me.

“However, that does not mean I do not value her contributions and I wish her all the best in the future. I just hope she will not forget what had brought her to fight against Najib and the corrupt government of Umno/Barisan Nasional, and that no matter what path she takes, never forget the main enemy,” he said, referring to prime minister Najib Razak.

Hamidah’s resignation on Saturday comes after a months-long public spat with Syed Saddiq, who accused Hamidah of being an Umno agent and blamed her for the mass resignations of party members in Perak earlier this year.

Hamidah denied she is an Umno agent, saying she resigned because of the ‘culture’ and lack of discipline within the party.

Syed Saddiq had also challenged her to resign several months ago, calling her a hypocrite and telling her to leave the party if she was after high positions.

That was the last straw, said Hamidah, who tendered her resignation as party vice-president, Gopeng divisional chief and party member on September 16.

Hamidah said she found the top leadership unwilling to take action against Syed Saddiq and felt that the party condoned his belligerence towards her.

“Many people said Syed Saddiq wouldn’t have dared to do such things without the blessing of the leadership,” she said, adding that there were many other issues that the party failed to handle well.

“I don’t think I can continue this struggle with Dr Mahathir; as I said earlier, if I want to do something I will do it wholeheartedly but today, I have lost interest, seeing a situation that I think is out of control; for me, it’s either do it or leave it,” she said. – September 20, 2017.
