SUNWAY University has tightened its security measures following recent anonymous terror threats posted on social media against the campus.

“We are monitoring the situation and are now working with police and other authorities,” a university spokesperson told The Malaysian Insight.

However, the spokesperson declined to elaborate on the details of the new security measures.

The threats against Sunway and neighbouring Taylor’s University were posted on several Facebook “confession” pages, according to their administrators.

Taylor’s University also heightened its security, with the university saying that it was taking the threat seriously and had notified its students to look out for suspicious activities or packages.

“Do not engage with the individual or open the package,” read the official email sent to its students.

Yesterday, Inspector-General of Police Abdul Hamid Bador said four suspected terrorists who had planned to assassinate several high-profile individuals and attack houses of worship were nabbed in a series of operations last week.

The four Islamic State sympathisers had wanted to avenge the death of fireman Muhammad Adib Mohd Kassim who died after sustaining injuries during the Seafield Sri Maha Mariamman Temple riots in Selangor last November.

It is not known if the four had anything to do with the threats against the two universities. – May 14, 2019.
