PAKATAN Harapan and Parti Warisan Sabah enjoy strong ties, affirmed Bersatu chairman Dr Mahathir Mohamad tonight.

He said the ruling Sabah party, though not part of the federal coalition, is a “good partner”.

“Warisan is working closely with PH. They even have three members in the federal cabinet,” said the prime minister, referring to Liew Vui Keong, who is de facto law minister, Mohamaddin Ketapi (tourism, arts and culture minister) and Darell Leiking (international trade and industry minister).

Dr Mahathir was speaking at a press conference after attending a breaking-of-fast event at Bandaraya Mosque in Kota Kinabalu. He then handed out aid to 100 underprivileged individuals and orphans.

Present was Sabah Chief Minister and Warisan president Mohd Shafie Apdal.

Asked about the state’s request to take over the Pan Borneo Highway project, Dr Mahathir said he is leaving it to Works Minister Baru Bian to decide on the matter.

The prime minister acknowledged that federal funds for projects in all states have been disbursed at a slow pace, saying this is because Putrajaya lacks money due to the previous administration’s mismanagement.

Given this, he said, the PH government wants the private sector to get involved in federal projects, adding that the companies must be “genuine”. – June 2, 2019.
