A SINGLE mother who lost three sons in the tahfiz school fire in Kampung Datuk Keramat earlier this month does not want vengeance, but only justice to be served.

Mashawani Mohamed Shahid, 37, wants justice to be served to the youth who  allegedly started the fire at Pusat Tahfiz Darul Quran on September 14, resulting in the deaths of 21 students and two wardens.

She said she wanted the tragedy to be a lesson to all.

“My boys are gone and I will never get them back. I will accept whatever punishment the youth get for starting the fire.

“I just hope the punishment is appropriate, considering what they had done. The incident must be made a lesson for everyone,” she said in Ampang, Selangor today.

The part-time trader’s sons who died in the fire were Muhammad Syafiq Haikal Sulaiman, 13; Muhammad Hafiz Iskandar Sulaiman, 11; and Muhammad Harris Ikhwan Sulaiman, 10.

The boys, who lost their father in 2006, had been living with their aunt in Ampang since early this year. Their grieving mother is also staying with her now in Lembah TTDI.

Asked if she planned to take legal action against the tahfiz school, Mashawani said she did not blame anyone for what had happened.

“I have only agreed to appoint a lawyer to handle negotiations, but I don’t plan to sue since I am not blaming anybody,” said the woman, who earlier received aid from Amanah.

Police have remanded seven suspects aged 11 to 18 over the fire. They are being probed for murder and causing mischief by fire. – September 25, 2017.
