HAZIQ Abdul Aziz was a little-known PKR member until today after claiming to be the man in a viral sex video with a minister.

The 27-year-old released a video on his Facebook page last night, admitting that he was in bed with a minister in a hotel room on May 11, the day of the Sandakan by-election.

Currently, he is the principal private secretary to Deputy Primary Industries Minister Shamsul Iskandar Mat Akin.

Haziq claims to be from Kuching, Sarawak, according to his Facebook page, where he is PKR Youth chief in Santubong.

He is also a law graduate from Universiti Malaya, and the founder and leader of PKR’s student wing, Mahasiswa Keadilan Malaysia.

Haziq had participated in a student exchange programme under the Malaysian-American Commission on Educational Exchange from 2014 to 2015.

He also had a stint in an internship programme as a Perdana fellow under Barisan Nasional minister Nancy Shukri.

Sources in Sarawak PKR said Haziq joined Nancy’s election campaign in 2013 but switched allegiance to PKR in the 14th general election last year.

After Pakatan Harapan won the federal government, he was appointed Shamsul Iskandar’s principal private secretary.

In PKR party elections, he contested and won unopposed as Santubong PKR Youth chief, and is said to be aligned to the faction led by youth chief candidate Najwan Halimi, who lost his bid.

As a university student, Haziq was suspended for a semester in 2012 for his involvement in a demonstration against the National Higher Education Fund Corporation.

He was prominent in student activism along with the likes of Adam Adli, Safwan Anang and Khalid Ismath.

His current boss, deputy minister Shamsul Iskandar, though double his age, was formerly a student activist and was president of Kumpulan Aktivis Mahasiswa Independen as well as secretary of Solidariti Mahasiswa Malaysia.

In his 30-second Facebook clip where he confessed to being the man in bed with the minister, Haziq called on the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission to investigate the minister for alleged corruption.

It is not clear what kind of corruption he was referring to.

But Umno supreme council member Lokman Noor Adam has quickly moved to lodge a police report, calling for investigations into both men in the viral video.

Lokman alleged that there was corruption involving a transfer of thousands of US dollars to the minister’s overseas bank account.
