PKR will not investigate a sex video that allegedly involves PKR deputy president Azmin Ali, said party secretary general Saifuddin Nasution Ismail today.
He said the stand of the party is clear and that it is leaving the investigation to the authorities.
“We had our political bureau meeting last week and among others issues discussed, we are leaving it to the police or the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission, if need be, to conduct their investigation.
“This is the party position as of last week. We do not want to speculate on the matter,” he said at a PKR Hari Raya open house in Kota Kinabalu.
Also present were party president Anwar Ibrahim and Sabah PKR chief Christina Liew.
Beleaguered PKR deputy president Azmin earlier today alluded to hidden hands within PKR working to ruin his reputation by releasing the video.
He believed it may be an inside job, as the culprits who circulated the sex video had the telephone numbers of all the branch leaders and lower-ranked members.
He had called on the party disciplinary committee to investigate the circulation of the video.
Azmin said circulating the video clips through messaging application WhatsApp instead of through social media platforms Instagram or Facebook enabled the culprits to avoid identification of their IP address, he said.
“This is most alarming. Even I do not have access to this information (telephone numbers).
“Who provided this information? Who established the WhatsApp groups?”
Azmin, who is economic affairs minister, said there were separate WhatsApp groups for PKR members in Sabah, Sarawak and Peninsula Malaysia that the party leadership must explain.
The man who admitted being in the clips with Azmin, Haziq Abdullah Abdul Aziz, was detained by police on Friday.
Haziq was greeted by several PKR members when he was released on bail at the Dang Wangi district police headquarters yesterday. – June 16, 2019.
