PAKATAN Harapan (PH) will hold another redelineation exercise to alter electoral boundaries to give it an extra edge in the next general election, a PAS delegate told the annual congress today.

Tumpat MP Che Abdullah Mat Nawi said rumours have already started that the PH administration was looking for enough MPs in Dewan Rakyat to give it a two-thirds majority for a constitutional amendment.

This majority will then be used to invalidate the previous redelineation exercise that was completed by the former Barisan Nasional government in early 2018, months before GE14, Che Abdullah said.

He spoke of this possibility to warn his fellow party colleagues at the 65th PAS muktamar (annual congress) to not take PH for granted.

“What if they managed to do (redelineation) months before the next election? They can break up constituencies where they have big majorities to create more seats they can win,” Che Abdullah said.

Another possibility, said the Kelantan delegate, was that the PH government announces policies which would fulfill its GE14 manifesto just before the election.

“Now we blame them for not fulfilling their manifesto but what if they lower toll rates, (tertiary education) PTPTN loans and bring down the cost of goods.

“What will we do then? Which is why we can’t rest on our laurels and prepare for the elections starting now,” Che Abdullah added. – June 22, 2019.
