PAKATAN Harapan will not last long, according to PAS deputy president Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man, who predicts the issues plaguing the ruling coalition will precipitate its collapse in the near future.

For this reason, he wants its rank and file to get ready to do battle in a general election called at short notice.

“With all their political problems and intrigue, with the public’s issues not settled and the country’s financial difficulties, I don’t think they will last a full term,” he told PAS delegates as he replied to points raised during the presidential debate at the party’s 65th assembly in Kuantan today.

“Our machinery must be ready to face a general election much earlier than expected.”

Buoyed by its new partnership with its former nemesis Umno, the Islamist party is confident it will march further after its surprise performance at the last general election.

The party captured 18 parliamentary seats, formed the Terengganu government and retained its hold on Kelantan, after pundits had predicted it would be wiped out.

Tuan Ibrahim said the electoral arrangement PAS had struck with Umno was strategic and in line with the Islamist party’s struggle.

He said PAS would under no circumstances interfere in Umno’s party affairs and any seat arrangements for the general election would be decided upon by the central leadership of both parties.

He said under the new arrangement both parties can undertake joint programmes to strengthen unity among Muslims and Malays. – June 23, 2019.
