KHAZANAH Nasional, which owns Malaysia Airlines (MAS), is studying proposals to sell the ailing national carrier, said Economics Affairs Minister Mohamed Azmin Ali.

Azmin added no decision has been made on a prospective sale, although Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad said it could be done as long as MAS’ identity is maintained.

No deadline has been set to complete the study, Azmin told reporters when met at Amanah’s Hari Raya Aidilfitri open house in Kuala Lumpur today.

“The matter was discussed briefly in Khazanah’s board meeting late last year. We wanted Khazanah to study the matter and see what is the best option to make sure that the airlines remain viable.

“No deadline on this proposal but we will allow Khazanah to conduct the study and present it to the board.”

In 2014, Khazanah pumped in RM6 billion to keep the airlines afloat but MAS continues to bleed money every year. – June 29, 2019.
