HAZIQ Abdullah Abdul Aziz has been sacked from PKR with immediate effect for accusing the party leadership of corruption, the party’s political bureau decided tonight.
PKR disciplinary board chairman Ahmad Kassim announced the decision to reporters after attending the political bureau meeting.
“We have studied his reply (to our show cause letter) and the disciplinary board proposed to the political bureau to revoke his membership,” Ahmad told reporters at the PKR headquarters in Petaling Jaya tonight.
Haziq, who was also PKR Santubong Youth chief, had replied to the party’s show cause letter on July 2.
The show cause letter was issued after Haziq said he was with Economic Affairs Minister Mohamed Azmin Ali in a sex video that first emerged on June 11. Haziq also said he had had previous sexual encounters with Azmin over the last three years.
Azmin, who is also PKR deputy president, had denied the video, calling it a plot to destroy his political career. He had lodged a police report and also a qazaf (slander) report with the Islamic authorities.
Ahmad said the disciplinary board found that Haziq had breached the party’s code of ethics for members.
“He has openly accused the party’s leadership of corruption without any proof.”
PKR president Anwar Ibrahim also told reporters tonight that the disciplinary board had made its decision impartially.
“The board does not side with anyone. Haziq was expelled on the basis of his accusations against the party leadership of corruption,” he said.
Haziq, who was a student leader when he first met Azmin, was arrested for a night on June 14 while waiting for a flight to Manila.
Police and the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission have opened investigations into the sex video but have not yet confirmed its authenticity. – July 3, 2019.
