BLACKLISTED National Higher Education Fund Corporation (PTPTN) borrowers who are listed on the Central Credit Reference Information System (CCRIS) will not be blacklisted if they apply to buy a home, the government has decided.
Housing and Local Government Minister Zuraida Kamaruddin said this exemption was one of the ways to help young people secure bank loans to become homeowners.
“For graduates who are first-time house buyers and who have been listed in the CCRIS, they will be exempted from the blacklist for home loans,” she told a press conference after launching the Hi Home Online Property Expo in Kuala Lumpur today.
However, PTPTN borrowers will not have their names removed from CCRIS if they are buying a car, she added.
Zuraida said more details on this decision would be unveiled when the ministry launches a home ownership scheme for youths in October.
She said the matter had been discussed with PTPTN chairman Wan Saiful Wan Jan.
Some 1.5 million PTPTN borrowers were listed in the CCRIS, according to figures from 2016.
The system, which is managed by Bank Negara Malaysia, lists the credit records of all borrowers from Malaysian financial institutions and covers a person’s outstanding credit, applications for credit and highlights accounts that are under close supervision. – July 10, 2019.
