A GERMAN beer party scheduled to be held in Klang this month is also a possible target for militants and police will advise the local authorities against allowing it, the inspector-general of police said today.
Mohamad Fuzi Harun said police would be advising the Klang Municipal Council (MPK) on the Centro German F&B party scheduled for October 12 and 13 based on intelligence received.
“We advise MPK not to hold it in Klang. I will be issuing a statement today or tomorrow. We are professional. We have proof of a threat, so it is our responsibility to advise the local authorities,” Fuzi told reporters in Putrajaya today.
The IGP also said permits for such food and drink events did not come from the police but the local authorities, clarifying confusion over recent statements by the police over the party.
Fuzi said there had been confusion over approval of the party, with news reports saying a police permit was required as part of MPK’s conditions, and other reports quoting the Klang police saying they would not allow the event because alcohol would be served.
“The power to approve permits for these events is not with the police but under the city council of the area involved,” Fuzi said, while the police’s advice is based on security information.
Prior to this, police had supported Kuala Lumpur City Hall’s move to stop the Better Beer Festival featuring craft beers to be held at Publika this weekend.
While DBKL said its decision was based on “sensitivities”, police subsequently said it was due to a security threat. – October 2, 2017.
