PKR president Anwar Ibrahim has stressed that he will continue to work with his deputy Mohamed Azmin Ali although they may not appear to be on the same page following their recent spat.

Anwar said Azmin was elected as the party’s deputy president and does not have problems with anyone on the leadership team.

“This is an irrelevant question. Azmin is the deputy president. We will work together as a team.

“We will continue discuss issues at meetings. No problem,” Anwar said today after attending the three-day PKR retreat in Port Dickson that ended today.

He was asked if he could work with Azmin following their recent exchange of words.

Last month, several clips showing two men engaging in sexual acts together were released via WhatsApp.

Former PKR political aide and Santubong Youth chief Haziq Abdullah Abdul Aziz subsequently admitted to being one of the men in the videos, naming Azmin as the other.

Meanwhile, Azmin has repeatedly denied his involvement.

The subsequent fallout from the scandal and police investigations had produced nine arrests, including Haziq and notably Anwar’s political secretary Farhash Wafa Salvador Rizal Mubarak.

Things came to a boil between Anwar and Azmin after Anwar suggested Azmin should quit as economic affairs minister if it was proven that his PKR deputy was indeed in the sex clips.

Azmin hit back, suggesting that Anwar reflect on his track record.

“Look at the man in the mirror,” Azmin told reporters in the Parliament lobby earlier this week.

“Read my lips, tell him to look in the mirror.

“Ask Anwar to ‘muhasabah diri’ (carry out self-introspection) and reflect on himself.

Anwar yesterday made conciliatory remarks about the sex video scandal, saying he welcomed the police findings that his deputy was “not involved” in the videos.

Following that, Azmin tweeted to say he took note of the Anwar’s acceptance of the police findings on scandal.

He added the party leadership would take stern action against members found to be involved in circulating the videos. – July 21, 2019.
