PKR’S leaders have not been forced to express their support for party president Anwar Ibrahim, party communications director Fahmi Fadzil said today.
He said the party’s leadership has also decided not to talk about the issue any more.
“This issue (of forcing support or otherwise) will not rise again. The leadership has decided to close the book on this one.
“We want to move forward from this episode as the people want PKR to refocus on the needs of the rakyat,” he said after a central leadership committee meeting.
Earlier this week PKR vice-president Zuraida Kamaruddin called for an end to “political stunts”, whereby leaders and states took turns to support Anwar.
The pledges of support came amid tensions between Anwar and deputy president Mohamed Azmin Ali over a sex video implicating the latter. Azmin has said the video was a work of his detractors to end his political career.
“Stop serving partisan politics which people are sick and tired of. We need to focus on our duties.
“Stop disrupting the process of building a new Malaysia with political stunts which appear to be aimed at appearing relevant and being in the headlines,” Zuraida, who is an Azmin loyalist, had said in a statement.
She also said Anwar was not challenged for the top post during the party polls last year, and questioned the need for pledges to support his leadership. – July 28, 2019.
