MOHAMED Azmin Ali has refuted speculation he attended a meeting with opposition lawmakers on Tuesday to convince Dr Mahathir Mohamad to stay a full term as prime minister.
The economic affairs minister said he was not aware of such a meeting.
“I attend a lot of meetings with Dr Mahathir. These are mainly on the economy and ministry-related matters. We now have to prepare for the 12th Malaysia Plan,” he told a press conference in Penang today.
It was rumoured that Azmin was the senior Pakatan Harapan leader invited to the Tuesday meeting, where opposition MPs tried to convince Dr Mahathir to complete his term.
Among the opposition leaders who attended the meeting were PAS vice-president Ahmad Samsuri Mokhtar and secretary-general Takiyuddin Hassan, Gabungan Parti Sarawak chief whip Fadillah Yusof and former Umno vice-president Hishammuddin Hussein.
Dr Mahathir has repeatedly said he will not stay for a full term, and will hand over the reins to PKR president Anwar Ibrahim. – August 2, 2019.
