THE Penang government has given stakeholders three months, starting August 19, to give their views and objections on the proposed light rail transit (LRT) project in Bayan Lepas.
Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow said the government has set up four permanent and six mobile locations in the state to collect feedback.
“This is an open invitation to all parties to give their views. Whether it’s the public, non-governmental bodies, and the corporate sector, they are all invited.
“Information officers will be stationed at each location to give briefings and assist the public on what is on display and to answer questions and provide feedback,” he said at a press conference in Komtar today.
The Bayan Lepas LRT project comes under the Penang Transport Master Plan (PTMP).
The LRT will feature 27 stations along a 29.9km route.
The four four permanent sites are in Komtar, Seberang Jaya Municipal Council headquarters (MPSP) in Bandar Perda, Penang Land Public Transport Agencyin Bayan Baru; and LRT headquarters in Kuala Lumpur.
The mobile locations will change according to business hours and weekends.
Chow said he welcomed all feedback, even if it was critical.
“For example, there is an objection to the alignment of the LRT line near the Masjid Sungai Nibong. I hope they will channel their objection through the right channels now,” he said.
On the RM10 billion funding the Penang government was seeking for the project, Chow said he hoped it would be provided in the12th Malaysia Plan, which would be tabled in the third quarter of 2020. – August 20, 2019.
