PREACHER Zamihan Mat Zin should not be let off the hook easily as he has a history of going against other races in the country, said Segambut MP Lim Lip Eng.
He said stern action by the government was necessary to deter others seeking to wreck the racial harmony among Malaysians.
“It will send a strong message to others,” he said after lodging a police report at the Dang Wangi police headquarters against Zamihan today.
Police, he said, should also investigate Zamihan under Section 298A for using religion to cause disharmony in the country.
“It carries a heftier penalty of imprisonment of not less than two years and not more than five years.”
Lim said Zamihan had, in the past, labelled other Muslims as apostates, and targeted Christians and those he termed as “liberal” or “moderate” Muslims.
According to a local media report, Zamihan had labelled lawyer and human rights activist Siti Kassim as an apostate.
He said this was because Christians were “kafir” (infidels).
“How can we wish them (Merry Christmas)? We are crude and tough on this matter because this is about ‘akidah’ (creed),” said Zamihan, who has been seconded from the Malaysian Islamic Development Department to the Prisons Department.
He is under investigation for allegedly criticising Johor’s Sultan Ibrahim Sultan Iskandar, who had prohibited a Muslim-only launderette from operating in the state.
In the same video, Zamihan described Chinese people as being “unhygienic”.
This came after the Johor ruler said he was unhappy with a “Muslim-only” launderette operating in the state.
Zamihan has been remanded for two days and is being investigated under Section 4A of the Sedition Act. – October 12, 2017.
