THE Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) will inform the Kuala Lumpur High Court on November 15 if it accepts a settlement proposal by Sarawak businessman Bustari Yusof over the forfeiture of funds related to 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB).

On June 21, the MACC had sought to seize RM11.92 million from Bustari, a close confidante of former prime minister Najib Razak.

“The representation letter has been received,” deputy public prosecutor Mahadi Abd Jumaat told reporters after meeting presiding judge Collin Lawrence Sequerah in chambers.

“It is being considered. Attorney-general (Tommy Thomas) is overseas and yet to return.”

Bustari, who is the brother of former works minister Fadillah Yusof, was not present in court today.

He was represented by Kamarul Hisham Kamaruddin.

Bustari reportedly left the country after the May 9 polls last year, when Pakatan Harapan swept into power.

Today’s hearing is part of a larger suit by the MACC against 41 entities and individuals to seize RM270 million of 1MDB funds. – November 1, 2019.
