Six-way battle on for Tg Piai

THE Tanjung Piai by-election will be a six-cornered fight as nominations closed today.
The Election Commission has announced the names of the candidates.
Pakatan Harapan is fielding Tanjung Piai Bersatu chief Karmaine Sardini while Barisan Nasional’s choice is former Tg Piai MP of two terms, Wee Jeck Seng
The others in the ring are Gerakan’s deputy secretary-general Wendy Subramaniam, Berjasa president Badhrulhisham Abdul Aziz and two independents, Ang Chuan Lock and Faridah Aryani Abd Ghaffar.
Gabungan Teksi SeMalaysia’s Shamsubahrin Ismail, who was expected to join the fray, did not show at the nomination centre this morning.
The by-election is triggered by the death of incumbent Dr Md Farid Md Rafik, 42, of Bersatu, on September 21.
In GE14, Farid won the seat with a 524-vote majority in a three-cornered fight against Wee (BN-MCA) and Nordin Othman (PAS).
Polling is on November 16. – November 2, 2019.
